Private jet routes / Empty legs to St. Moritz
St. Moritz has its own airport: Samedan, or Engadin Airport, five minutes down the valley. At 1,707 m it is one of the highest airports in Europe, and in winter it is busy with jets flying guests in for the season, the Snow Polo World Cup and White Turf.
These are the empty legs into and out of Samedan on the board now. When an aircraft drops guests and flies home empty, that flight is sold one way for the whole aircraft.
Empty legs are priced for the whole aircraft by the operator flying them, and usually land well under the cost of booking the same jet as a charter. Many are listed with the price on request.
No. The airport is high, the valley is narrow and the approach needs a crew briefed for it, so larger jets are restricted and some operators do not fly there at all. Each listing names the airport, so a flight shown here really lands in Samedan.
Weather and winter slots can rule it out. The usual fallbacks are Lugano and Zurich, about three hours away by road, or a helicopter transfer.
Over Christmas and New Year, during February and around the big events on the frozen lake, when the most jets fly in and the most fly out empty.
